Fourth of July Hostess Gifts: What to Bring to a Texas Cookout

Independence Day 2026 falls on a Saturday, which means cookouts will run all weekend — Friday July 3rd evenings, Saturday all day, Sunday-morning leftovers. The lazy answer is a six-pack and a bag of ice. The thoughtful answer involves slightly more thought and slightly less alcohol. Here’s what we’d suggest.
What Hosts Actually Want
We’ve polled Texas hosts. The pattern:
- They have plenty of food. Don’t bring more.
- They have plenty of beer. Adding one more cooler of it doesn’t move the needle.
- They have not enough small thoughtful gifts that survive past the cookout.
A $20–$40 thoughtful gift outranks a $20 case of beer in their memory by Sunday morning. Here’s what we’d put in a cookout-bag.

Under $25
